A MYSTICAL TALE: Dior Haute-couture spring/summer 2021

The Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring Summer 2021, was unveiled in a short film directed by Matteo Garrone, titled Le Château de Tarot.

Maria Grazia Chiuri, with the pandemic causing a general feeling of uncertainty, found herself intrigued by the mystical world of the divine arts. The collection offered a subtle tribute to Christian Dior, who believed in the divinatory arts and signs of fate, “It will be extraordinary. Your house will revolutionize fashion!” He notably recalled a prophecy in his autobiography.

In the film, shot at the château de Sammezzano, we pursue the protagonist trying to find her identity through her encounters with various mythological characters. We get a chance to explore the savoir-faire through magical symbols, mystic characters, and the silhouettes of Haute Couture envisioned by Maria Grazia Chiuri.

The collection features a series of extraordinary evening gowns in dévore velvet with gold zodiac prints, gold and burgundy jacquard, long pleats embroidered with crystal jewels, hand-painted details and embroidered bodices, enhanced by Pietro Ruffo's illustrations. The bar jacket was reimagined in black velvet with trousers, giving an androgynous touch.

At the end of the story, the protagonist experiences a sort of rebirth, reconciling her feminine and masculine halves, highlighting the unification of gender norms and our desire to dream, even during tough times.
